Context

A self-regulating DC microgrid to charge a large fleet of vehicles in the most sustainable way, enabling to supply power back to supply the building’s electricity need.

Implementation

  • 10,000 square meters
  • 96 solar panels producing 48kW
  • 250 smart bi-directional EV chargers for Vehicle-to-Grid capability
  • Battery storage
  • No inverters, no rectifiers
  • Benefits

    Savings and sustainability

  • Vehicles’ batteries can supply the electricity demands of the building, stabilizing the grid when required
  • Optimize renewable energy use: 15% savings by feeding PV DC directly to cars
  • Reduced grid dependency, can also fully operate autonomously
  •

Easy to expand, simpler to control

  • Scalable
  • Autonomous operation on droop: no Energy Management System intervention
  • Quote

“The challenge of a.s.r. for this project was to implement this installation in a sustainable way, and that is why we chose DC. The project stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved when innovation meets sustainability. “

Jos Ruijter, Construction and Technology Manager, a.s.r.
