Current/OS Partners Involved:

Schneider Electric, DC Systems

Location

Wuhan, China

Setup

2023

Context

Schneider Electric implemented this innovative Direct Current installation to boost energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions while maximizing the use of distributed energy resources (DERs). Designed for scalability, the system adapts easily to expanding electrical loads. By optimizing power distribution and reducing copper and electrical equipment requirements, the installation demonstrates Schneider Electric’s commitment to sustainable, resource-efficient operations and future-ready energy management.

Implementation

• 900kWp Hybrid AC/DC Rooftop PV generation
• 48kWh Battery Energy Storage System
• utility power bidirectional converter cabinet (AFE, 100KW) & DC power distribution cabinet equipped with solid-state circuit breaker protection
• 20,000 m2 facility powered in DC with air conditioners, EV charging, street lighting, DC sockets (DC48V) in all indoor spaces

Benefits

  • CO2 emissions reduced by by 577 tons/year: -13% for the entire factory
  • Highly scalable, flexible system design to adapt to new load requirements in plug-and-play mode
  • Reduced conversion losses

Quote

“Our LVDC Microgrid pilot at the Wuhan factory in China, is one of Schneider Electric’s key benchmark practices for rolling out our sustainable development strategy. With high-safety DC system solutions and full digital monitoring, it’s hit a 13% annual carbon reduction target and ensures 100% green power for new loads. The project has proven how tech innovation drives both cost-efficiency and long-term value for our customers. Its rewards and recognitions from the market are a strong testament to our “Sustainable Impact” philosophy.”
